Travel Info

Will of Africa Adventures is delighted to help you plan your perfect holiday in South Africa. Listed below are answers to some frequently-asked questions which you might find useful.

Do I need to take out travel insurance?
We strongly advise that you take out comprehensive travel insurance which includes repatriation costs in the event of an accident or medical emergency. We further advice that you see your doctor before travelling to ensure you have the appropriate vaccinations for your holiday. Malaria is prevalent in parts of the Northern Province, Kwazulu-Natal and the Kruger National Park and you should discuss appropriate precautions with your General Practitioner before travelling.

What vaccinations should I have?
For travel generally in Southern Africa it is recommended that you are immunised against diphtheria, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, polio, TB, tetanus and typhoid. You should consult your General Practitioner to discuss whether additional protection against Malaria is advisable. The Waterberg region of Limpopo Province is largely considered malaria-free, but malaria is prevalent in low-altitude parts of Mpumalanga (including Kruger National Park) and parts of KwaZulu-Natal. The risk is highest during the Spring and Summer months October-May. Yellow Fever: You will be required to show a Yellow Fever certificate if arriving within 6 days from infected areas, or if your journey entails passing through the Yellow Fever belt of Africa or South America by any means other than a scheduled air service. Travellers should also be aware that rabies and AIDS are both prevalent in South Africa. We advise that you visit your doctor at least 3 weeks prior to travelling to ensure you are suitably inoculated against preventable diseases.

Do I need to arrange a visa prior to travel?

What clothing or equipment do I need to bring? When we confirm your booking we will send you a list of recommended clothing and other items to bring with you on your Will of Africa Adventure holiday, accounting for the activities you have selected and the time of year you plan to travel. For those planning a riding safari, we recommend at least a pair of full or half chaps (not full-length riding boots as these may get badly scratched in the bush and be too warm for the climate); a sturdy pair of riding shoes or boots such as those made by Ariat or Mountain Horse, which are comfortable enough to walk in; a fleece in case of chilly evenings; a hat which covers the back of neck and the face; riding gloves; and a bumbag or similar to carry sunscreen, camera and binoculars.

Do I ride well enough to go on a riding safari?
If you can control a forward-going horse at trot and canter in open going you are more than likely to ride well enough to get the most out of a riding safari. When you book you will be asked to describe your riding experience so that we can match you as closely as possible to the right horse and ensure that you will enjoy your adventure. If you are riding with game, however, you agree at all times to obey the commands of the guide to ensure the safety of the group.

I'm travelling on my own - can I still book a Will of Africa Adventure holiday?
Of course. Will of Africa Riding safaris are ideal for people travelling on their own. All the destinations cater for the single traveller, although certain destinations might charge a single supplement in their peak seasons.

There is a minimum of 2 persons for the Will of Africa Adventure Travel holidays and minimum of 4 persons for Will of Africa Adventure Luxury Safaris.

I want to travel with more than three friends - can I still book through you?
Yes. If you choose a Will of Africa Adventure Riding Safar and Will of Africa Adventure Travel or Luxury Safari holiday with more than three travelling companions we will regard this as a bespoke holiday. This will not necessarily cost you any more per person but will allow you to personally select your choice of destinations and the length of time you stay at each. Please contact us for further information.
